Does this driver improve sound quality or performance? Are there any tweaks?

No, this driver does not improve sound quality nor increase performance.

No, there are no tweaks.

If someone states that its driver improves sound quality and performance, you are being fooled, cheated.

It is even worse that the so called tweaks come from a person who is not EVEN technically acknowledged, does NOT know anything about Windows internals, software engineering and sound fidelity that all audiophiles always look for.

If you “feel” the sound better, that is the infamous placebo effect and there is no real proof that any tweaks work.

In fact, I have yet to see a driver that states in its release notes that it improves sound quality.

I’ve disassembled about every single .SYS driver, .DLL libraries and .EXE executables and found nothing.

There are some undocumented registry values, but nothing related to sound quality or performance.

Would the so called tweaks even exist, they would be in my Support Packs, you can bet that.

OpenAL 2D benchmark in RightMark 3DSound crashes your system

Details: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0x000000D1) – ctoss2k.sys

Microphone issues on Windows 7/Vista 64-bit (x64) with 4GB of RAM or more

Audigy driver does not support 64-bit addressing, resulting in random issues with the Microphone (static, robotic or distorted voice, white noise).

– install the 32-bit (x86) version of Windows

– limit the RAM available to Windows to less than 4GB

– enable Memore Hole in BIOS Setup, if your motherboard supports the setting

6.1 Speakers incorrectly available on Windows 7 64-bit (x64)

Due to a version detection bug in the 64-bit drivers, the FilterSpeakerMode registry setting is ignored, exposing the 6.1 speakers setting on Windows 7 x64 edition.

Do not choose that mode as it causes sync issues with Windows mixer.

MediaSource DVD-Audio Player system requirements

– 32-bit edition of Windows 7 / Vista / XP

– any Audigy 2, Audigy 2 ZS or Audigy 4 card

Built-in Decoder on Windows 7 / Vista (requires Service Pack 1)

To use the built-in decoder, make sure it is enabled in Audio Console.

Select “SPDIF Out (Creative SB Audigy (WDM))” as the output device of your player and then configure the AC3/DTS filter to send the stream through SPDIF.

When you restart your computer, the Tone settings (Bass and Treble) are not applied.

Just readjust one of the controls one time per boot.

Advanced EQ and Special FX not available on Windows 7 / Vista

These presets don’t work on Windows 7 / Vista.

There is no sound in games with OpenAL support on Windows XP

Disable Advanced EQ and Special FX selecting “No effect” before running the game or program.

Equalizer settings are lost

When you run a game with OpenAL support or using Creative ALchemy, the Equalizer settings are lost.

Just run Equalizer and the saved setting is loaded automatically.

Tone settings are reset when speaker configuration is changed

Bass and treble settings are reset when speaker configuration is changed.

DTS Encoder Switcher

The Encoder Switcher can be found in the \EncSwitcher folder in the path where you extracted the Support Pack.

Thoroughly read the ReadMe.txt file included before using the provided utilities.

Hardware CMSS Headphone

To use the hardware CMSS you need to select “Disable all enhancements” in the “Enhancements” tab on:

Playback Devices -> Speaker Properties

Now check the Speaker configuration in “Playback devices”.

If it is Stereo, run Audio Console and change it to 4.1, 5.1 or 7.1 and only after that change it to Headphones.

This procedure ensures that CMSS(1) will work after a Windows restart, otherwise only CMSS2 will work.

Microsoft Audio Home Theater Effects

This driver adds the following audio effects, which are available depending on the current speaker configuration:

– Bass Management
– Speaker Fill
– Room Correction
– Loudness Equalization
– Bass Boost
– Virtual Surround
– Low Frequency Protection

Some effects are also available for the “SPDIF Out” device.

Some Microsoft effects have priority over Creative CMSS effects and will disable the later.

Windows MIDI Device Configuration Utility

Use this utility to change the MIDI playback device for 32-bit and 64-bit applications.

The version of Alchemy that comes with this is bugged and can cause a BSOD if pushed hard enough.
It’s best to uninstall it and use the version of Alchemy available from CLs support pages – 1.25.10 I believe.
I dunno where Dan got 1.30.00 from? I can’t find it anywhere.

I never-ever update ALchemy. I never get any errors -and I can use on all sound devices. Does the ALchemy even get worthwhile updates? All I’ve ever seen are game configuration profiles and file protection measures. As long as you can manually add games, there shouldn’t be any problems. ALchemy Universal ftw

I’m getting problems with the CTAudSvc.exe
dts sometimes repeatedly flashes from 5.1 to 2 speaker on my receiver. Sometimes the sound vanishes, and needs a restart too… I think that’s a longstanding 24/48000 issue though..

It does say DTS in the console now though. 😀

Hi, and thank you for this!

It’s all working in windows 7, everything even CMSS Stereo Suround in my old Audigy2 Platinum.
It took me many install/uninstalls, until i found what you should do:

Right click the volume icon in the tray, and select “Playback devices”.

In the window that pops up, select “Speakers” and press the “Properties” button.

Then select the “Advanced” tab, and select “16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality)” as the Default Format.

That fixed everything!

Thanks a lot, i’m happy now!

Hi, everybody
I have some questions. I have an audigy 2zs , and i want buy
Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect Pack
but , i don’t know what kind I buy??
1. Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect Pack
2.Dolby Digital Live Pack – SB Audigy Series
Somebody answer me.Thanks very much!!!!

15 09 2009

Just buy the Dolby Digital for SB Audigy series.

You can add in the dts interactive with the daniel_k support pack and dts switcher. The serial number Creative will give you for the Dolby Digital pack includes dts licensing. At least, dts worked for everyone else who had a Dolby license…

It’s 100% worth doing if you have a home theater receiver.

15 09 2009

Hi guys, just a brief info – this version of suport pack gives me most stable DDL signal. Almost no ac3 PCM switching.

16 09 2009

….but the dts sounds better for music and games. Stereo avi files sound reasonable even. Does here anyway, on our Yamaha receiver.

….aside from the Creative snap crackle & *PLOP* sounds we’ve never really been without. That’s annoying, and can even occur on analogue set-ups.

21 09 2009

Is there any experience and advice on using either Creative audio enhancements vs. the Microsoft audio enhancements?

Just in case it matters what i’m doing. here it is:
I redirect bass at 85hz, enable stereo surround cmss at 40% front, custom equalizer settings, and encoder digital out (ddl before, trying dts)

anyone prefer ms over creative for some reason?

23 09 2009

Sometime Sound is Interruptedly. Using DTS encoder. can you FIX it ???

24 09 2009

No it’s daniel_k’s.

27 09 2009

I’m having problems with the 3.1 Audigy Support Pack under Win7, namely I can’t get quadrophony to work. When I select the 4.1 setting in Speaker Configuration, the sound coming from rear speakers is barely audible. Moving the front/rear slider doesn’t seem to do anything and the only thing that seems to make any difference is when i switch CMSS2 on. Then the sound becomes *slightly* more audible, but it’s still not what it’s supposed to be. Any ideas?

29 09 2009

The problem is probably with the windows sound volume levels.
That sounds like a well known bug. I think it’s documented in daniel’s release notes.

Control Panel > Sound > Creative Speakers > Properties >

Now on the “Levels” tab click the “Balance”.
You’ll probably find the volume is down on there. Hope it works!

The Edge

I Install from Zero this drivers on my Audigy Platinum Ex and I have no ASIO Drivers!!!! I Uninstalled and run again and here the ASIO Drivers, but anyway my Sonar 7 works real bad with Windows 7 64bits 4Gb RAM, I need an estable Windows 7 x64 drivers for my Audigy Plattinum Ex.

30 09 2009

The Edge:
Don’t we all. It was hard enough explaining this to Creative when Vista first came out. I doubt there will be many more Creative releases now though.

30 09 2009

I dunno Goat. They did, after all, include their update software with the latest release. Finger’s crossed anyways.

4 10 2009

Hello Daniel!
First of all thank you for a new pack ( sorry for my bad english, I’m from hungarian )

Second, i have a simple but big problem!
I can’t install the support pack 3.1, beacuse win7 says: „ Driver version is not found
I send a link with this picture:
My OS is:
Microsoft Windows 7 x86 Ultimate Retail HUN MSDN DVD ( of course WITH hungarian language im not sure its matter or not ).
My comp: 4gb ram, e8500, giga ep-35 ds4, evga 8800gt, AUDIGY 2 ZS PLATINUM PRO
What can I do ?

Please HELP me!

Thanks a lot !!!

5 10 2009

Konkesz: Perhaps talk about that with daniel_k on the Creative forums. I don’t think he’ll read that here…

I doubt the Hungarian language is the problem, as I have seen others posting with ZS Platinum Pro and the same issue.

Sounds like the Platinum Pro device identification is missing from the wdma_emu.inf file.

Have a look to see if you have SB0360 or SB0290, and post your question here.

Good Luck!

7 10 2009

Thank for your help i tried to contact with daniel and i know this forum, but Daniel is went away i dont know where, anyway my card is: SB0350.

Greetings from hungary 😀

22 10 2009

Just to let you folks know, there’s a support pack version 3.5 out there. It’s the first one that works for me 100% without any tweaks.

23 10 2009

Ty Ostar, been a bit busy… 🙂

24 10 2009

Guys i dont understand. :S

The same problem with 3.5 pack: DRIVER VERSION IS NOT FOUND.

I’ve asked Daniel but he did’nt answer me.

24 10 2009

Just installed retail windows 7 upgrade over vista. had support pack 3.1 installed already on vista. After upgrade, audio still worked, but something happened and dts turned off, things we’re strange. I was scared. Then I installed 3.5, saying to no to replace existing software. All is good! No problems installing driver (sorry to those others)

Only problem I did have, when I had audio at 24bit 48,000 khz the sound crackled and skipped to the point of inaudibility. I lowered it to 16bit 48,000khz and everything is gravy. My computer is old.

Good luck everyone, there’s my experience
